Vasti Or Basti(Medicated Enemas)

In Ayurveda, Basti is considered one of the main therapies; it is also known as the king of all Ayurvedic treatments. Basti is one of the most effective of Panchakarma’s five main procedures. Basti is the process of introducing herbal decoctions and medicated oils into the colon via the rectum. In panchakarma, vasti treatment entails expelling body toxins and vitiated doshas by introducing medicated liquids or oils through the anus, urethra, or vaginal canal. Vasti involves injecting medicinal substances into the rectum, such as sesame oil, calamus oil, or other herbal decoctions in a liquid medium. Vasti is especially beneficial for vata imbalances.

Vata is considered the most important dosha in Ayurveda, but when it becomes imbalanced in the body, it can cause serious problems. This Vata disrupts the body’s functioning, resulting in numerous imbalances. Basti makes use of Vata dosha’s natural movement to remove toxins and waste from the system. Basti cleanses the vata area, which has the large intestine as its focal point. Vata dosha is balanced and nurtured by Basti treatments. When Vata is functioning normally, it aids in the removal of toxins and waste particles from the dhatus (body cells).

Medicated enemas are used for a variety of reasons. This treatment is generally used to flush the loosened doshas through the intestinal tract. Ayurveda lists over 100 different types of enemas. Vasti treatment can also be used to treat Vata disorders such as sciatica, arthritis, rheumatism, gout etc.
